New student applying for EGKA membership for the first time

To register online as a new student applying for membership for the first time, please click the button

Introduction

If you have recently started training as a completely new student at one of our affiliated dojos, you will be asked to join the EGKA as part of the induction process. Joining the EGKA is part of the grading recognition process we manage on behalf of the IOGKF. Membership also provides you with immediate third party liability and personal accident insurance during training at all compliant EGKA affiliated dojos and events.

If you are an existing member of the EGKA, this information is not relevant to you. Click here to be returned to the membership options page.

When you begin the registration process you will be asked to select one of the following options:
    001. Adult Membership - Register & pay online £45.00 - Annually
    002. Junior (4-17 yrs) Membership - Register & pay online £25.00 - Annually
    003. Family Membership - Register & pay online £80.00 - Annually
    004. Existing EGKA member with current membership in force (all subscription levels)
    005. Additional Non-Lead family member (non-paying)

As a new student applying for EGKA membership for the first time, you would normally be expected to select one of the first three options if you are paying online with a debit or credit card to complete the registration process. You can also pay by your PayPal account if you have one.

You may register non-lead family members for the first time under option 005.

Option 004 does not apply to your situation.

Online payments with registration

All of the first four options involve you making an online debit or credit card payment to complete the registration. Unless you complete the online card payment at the end of the sign-up process, the registration will fail and be recorded for approval by the EGKA Membership Secretary.

Selecting the family membership may save you some money. It is restricted to two adults and their children still living at home and under the age of 18 years. More information below.

Questionnaire

Once you have selected one of the option, you will be presented with an online questionnaire to complete. The information we ask you to provide is necessary to allow us to better manage the needs and expectations of the general membership and fulfil our moral and statutory obligations in respect of safeguarding and insuring your safety.

Questions with a red ‘*’ asterisk must be answered before you can save and submit the form.

As a new student to the EGKA you would normally select your grade as a 10th Kyu (New Student). You should enter your IOGKF grade if you are returning to the EGKA after a break, or are joining us from another IOGKF affiliated association.

One of the other compulsory questions asks you to enter the date your EGKA membership should start from. This will be the date you first started training at the dojo you are joining.

Please note that the questionnaire serves both new members like you applying to join the EGKA for the first time, as well as existing members renewing their annual membership. Some of the questions therefore only apply to renewing members. They should be obvious and can safely be ignored by new first time applicants.

When you complete and save the questionnaire you will be invited to pay for your subscription by debit or credit card if you chose one the options 001 to 004. The online payment system is managed by PayPal by their secure online collection process for payment by card or by Gocardless.com for direct debit with your bank. The EGKA does not handle or store any of your debit card, credit card or bank details on our system.

When you make your application, the system holds your record in a pending file for the Membership Secretary to approve with an EGKA Membership Number. Once your application has been approved you can collect your EGKA membership book from your local dojo instructor by taking an in date membership card printed from the profile, You will be able to receive information bulletins from both your local dojo and EGKA Central about up-and-coming events and other news. You will also receive a timely reminder to renew your membership each year in future.

One of the key advantages of the online system is you can keep us informed of any changes in your contact information and the dates you grade.

Once you have created an online account, and it is in date then it provides you with third party and personal accident insurance cover for any occasion you are training under the supervision of one of our recognised Instructors or Assistant Instructors at an EGKA dojo or EGKA organised and sanctioned event.

Family memberships

If it is to your advantage, we are pleased to offer a discount to members of the same immediate family. The offer is restricted to two adult parents and any number of their children under the age of 18 still living at home. It will be necessary to create the lead family member first with Option 003 who will be the person billed each year. You then need to create separate profile for each of the other members of the family by submitting and adding them in turn. It sounds much more complex than it actually works out in practice when applying. The system makes it pretty obvious what you need to do as you go through the process.
